Real Linux VM Beta

A genuine Linux kernel booting entirely in your browser via WebAssembly β€” not a simulation. Every command really runs. Nothing persists between sessions, and there's no real network access, so it's completely safe to experiment in.

linux-vm (WebAssembly)

Boot a real Linux machine

This downloads a small Linux kernel and root filesystem (~38MB, one time per start) and runs it with a CPU emulator entirely on your device β€” no server involved. First boot takes 10-20 seconds. There's no persistent storage or real network access inside the VM, so anything you do resets when you leave or restart it.

Heads up: this VM runs a minimal BusyBox-based Linux, which uses its own traditional command names instead of the GNU ones you may be used to. A few common swaps: vim β†’ vi, useradd/userdel β†’ adduser/deluser, groupadd/groupdel β†’ addgroup/delgroup. Everything else β€” passwd, su, git, curl, awk, and more β€” works under its usual name. Run busybox --list inside the VM to see everything available.
